Growing up in Maryland and Washington, D.C., during a period of significant transition, Ibata witnessed a city and culture in constant evolution. His work draws from the people, places, images, sounds, and experiences that surrounded him—from the movies and media that captured his imagination to the music that defined generations and the realities of violence that were an unavoidable part of life.
